ahh... i actually kinda want to know more about this feb14 special day so i dig into history.com
im not sure if the source is reliable but in any case, its not for me to believe in.
bcos my religion do not have such stuffs.
ohh & plus, there is truly no 'true' history of valentine's day.
so those in history are just what they believe happened.
alright alright. i stop my own narration. in any case, here it is. summarised.
One legend says that Valentine was a priest who served in the third century in Rome. At that time, the Emperor Claudius II assumed that single men made better soldiers than those who are married. So the Emperor outlawed marriage for young men so they can become good soldiers for him (=.=). Valentine sees the Emperor's movement as an injustice of the decree and hence defied Claudius. He continue on secretly perform marriages for young lovers. Sadly, his actions were discovered and he was ordered by Claudius to be put to death. Then the day of his death is to be known as Valentine's day. I suppose. heh. FULL STOP. okay done, thats the first story.
EXTRAS - Other stories thinks that Valentine may have been killed for attempting to help Christians escape the brutal Roman prisons.
Another legend. Valentine actually sent the first 'valentine' greeting himself. While in prison, its believed that Valentine fell in love with a young girl -- who may have been his jailor's daughter -- who visited him when he was under confinement. Before his death, it is alleged that he wrote her a letter. He then signed 'From your Valentine'. Phheeweeet. So sweeeeeeeeeet. Ohh. *Ehem* Alright. The truth behind Valentine's legend is murky & unclear but stories about him certainly emphasize his appeal as a symphatethic, heroic, & most importantly, romantic figure. Ohh and he was considered one of the most popular saints in England & France in the Middle Ages. Like idol ehh? ish3. No wonder Valentine's day ahh. People celebrate because of his romantic actions. Hmm. FULL STOP. okay thats the last one i put in here about Valentine k.
EXTRAS - Cupid. You know laa Cupid. The child-like, winged angel (deity) is often associated with our modern Valentine's day. The child is the son of Venus, the Roman goddess of love. So its a male. Hmm.. now i know. And in Greek mythology, Cupid is known as Aphrodite's son of Eros. wooo.
